This guy is a monster of Afro (Angolan)-Cuban music, whose music, slow, languid and laden with emotion surpasses anything I’ve heard in the genre for a very long time, and recalls the power of the best of the Delta Blues, in terms of the direct communication of feeling. Rhythmically, of course, it is a whole different kettle of fish, sensual and swaying deeply. I discovered him through my Gunma mountain hillbilly friend, Jeff, whose record collection, duly I-Podded during an extended stay in August.
