The Great War for Civilisation : The Conquest of the Middle East

Robert Fisk

I’ve just cracked this, and loved the early prose, which is admiringly muscular and full of sharp — not gratuitous — observations. It’s a huge tome, especially for a reporter’s memoir, but if Fisk can sustain this kind of style, it’ll make a great bedside project for the next couple of weeks.
Arts Journal, among many other glowing reviews, called it: “a massive, enlightening, beautifully written book, which, as we’ve said before, is unbeatable at connecting past and present.”
