Committee on Global Thought at Columbia University – 12/3/10
Join former New York Times reporter and J-School Prof. HOWARD FRENCH for a discussion on the recent exponential growth of Asian trade, aid, investment and migration in Africa over the last decade — and how we can understand the increasingly interconnected social relations between the Chinese and Africans on African soil. French will moderate a panel that includes DEBORAH BRAUTIGAM, a professor at American University and the author of “The Dragon’s Gift: The Real Story of China in Africa”; WANG HONGYI, an associate director at the China Institute of International Studies and secretary general of the African Research Centre; ABDOULIE JANNEH, United Nations executive secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa; and DANIEL LARGE, research director of the Africa Asia Centre at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London and founding director of the Rift Valley Institute’s Sudan Open Archive. Open to the public.
